Boardman Local “Meets Requirements”in the Ohio Dept. of Education’s 2015 Special Education Rating

Each year the Boardman Local Schools are rated on the performance of our special education program by the Ohio Department of Education for procedural compliance.   The rating uses final data from the 2013-2014 school year that Boardman submits through the Education Management Information System (EMIS).  These data result in one of four ratings and the Boardman Local’s 2015 Special Education Rating is Meets Requirements with 28 points out of a possible 28 points.

Starting in 2017, the special education rating will also include measures of results for students with disabilities.  If student results indicators were included this year, Boardman Local’s rating would be Meets Requirements with 12 points out of a possible 12 points.

Special Education is a SERVICE not a Place...

The Boardman Local Schools are currently servicing approximately 750 identified special education students that reside in our district.  A full continuum of services are provided for identified students in all (7) buildings within our district as well as St. Charles Catholic School. Boardman has been awarded the services of a School Psychologist Intern for the fifth straight year through a fully-funded grant from the Ohio Department of Education and Kent State University.  Our preschool program, located on Lockwood Blvd., continues to grow as 30 preschoolers transitioned from the preschool to our four elementary buildings for the 2015-2016 school year.

Child Find

The Boardman Local Schools is required to locate all children, who may have disabilities, ages birth through 21, who reside within its boundaries.  Special Education services are available in our schools for any child identified with a disability ages 3 through 21.  If you have a child or know of a child you suspect may have a disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and who reside in Boardman, please call Mark Zura, Coordinator of Special Ed. and Student Services at 330-726-3411 or contact your building principal.
