BOARDMAN WELCOMES NEW PARENT MENTOR Ariel jenkins student services parent mentor

Meet Ariel Jenkins--Boardman's new parent mentor.  This is a new position in Boardman, funded by an Ohio Department of Education Grant, to assist families with children who have disabilities.  

CONGRATULATIONS BHS PRINCIPAL FERNBACK: ATHENA AWARD NOMINEE Principal Cindy Fernback

Boardman High School Principal, Cindy Fernback, is among a select group of outstanding women in the Mahoning Valley, nominated for the prestigious Athena Award.  She is among 28 area business and professional women who have demonstrated excellence in their chosen career, provided leadership in the community, and mentored or contributed to the growth of other professional women.

 Boardman Local Schools has been awarded Ohio’s Parent Mentor Project grant from The Ohio Department of Education!  

This $25,000 grant allows Boardman Local Schools to hire a part-time parent mentor to provide free support and resources to families of children with disabilities.   If you are interested in applying for the position, please read on.

School Food Pantries Still Helping Meet the Need During Covid Closure counselors packing boxes of food from pantry

Boardman Schools opened the Valley's  first in-school daily food pantry as a pilot project with Second Harvest Food Bank in 2016.  Now, BCIS, as well as Boardman High School, Glenwood Jr. High and Stadium Drive Elementary have pantries. 

Please call the schools' main numbers if you have a donation, or if you are in need.  If you do not reach a person please leave a message so we can get back to you.  

NEXT MEAL DISTRIBUTION AT BHS MONDAY APRIL 6 Packing meals in BHS cafeteria

Monday, April 6th is the next Boardman Local Schools Meal Distribution.  It will be held at Boardman High School from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., or until supplies run out.

ATTENTION/ CALENDAR CHANGE: LAST DAY OF CLASS IS NOW JUNE 3 school calendar change graphic

The final day of class for students will be Wednesday, June 3--that's two days earlier than planned.  The School Board has agreed to this change to allow for district wide teacher professional development.  That training will take place for our teachers on Thursday, June 4, and Friday, June 5.

 

Congratulations Optimist Club Essay Winners! Principal Fernback, Randy Nord, Brandon Noel, TaJuan Richards, Anthony Mico, Mrs. Hildebrand, Sgt. Chuck Hillman

Congratulations to BHS juniors, Brandon Noel, TaJuan Richards, and Anthony Micco.  They were awarded first, second and third place, respectively, in the Boardman Optimist Club Essay Contest.  They each receive a Barnes and Noble Gift Card.

Brandon Noel's 1st place essay will now advance to the Ohio District Level, for a chance to win $2,500.

"Teacher of the Year" Award goes to BHS Science Teacher Ms. Moran Ms. Heather Moran in her advanced biology classroom

Boardman Advanced Biology Teacher Heather Moran was awarded “Teacher of the Year” by the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.  The Award was presented in Columbus February 25, during the OFSWCD annual statewide Convention.  

ROTARY YOUTH LEADERS REPRESENT BOARDMAN Rotary leadership award winners Kara Eliser and Sam Cicchilo

Juniors Kara Eliser and Samuel Cicchilo received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award for 2020.  As award winners, the Boardman Rotary sponsored their weekend trip to the the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference at the Avalon Inn February 21-23.  They were among 106 students from the tri-county area, recognized for their leadership skills and community service.

BOARD APPROVES NEXT YEAR'S SCHOOL CALENDAR GRAPHIC OF THE 2020-21 SCHOOL CALENDAR

The Boardman Board of Education has approved the school calendar for next year, the 2020-2021 school year.  Classes will begin on Monday, August 31--and Commencement for the Class of 2021 will be Sunday June 6.

Boardman Symphony and Chamber Orchestras Earn Top Honors at State Contest orchestra officers 2020  Anna Olivier, Dom Meyer, Ali Williams, Cecilia Schuler Lily Essad, John Blinsky, Andrew Theophanous TaJuan Richards

The Boardman Orchestras once again made history for the Boardman Orchestra program and Boardman High School by bringing home Superior (I) ratings for both Symphony and Chamber Orchestra ensembles at the Ohio Music Education Association State Orchestra Adjudicated Event held at Hudson High School February 21.

DISTRICT ANNOUNCES 'REMIND' AS OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION TOOL REMIND 101 graphic

Over the coming weeks, Boardman Local Schools will be implementing REMIND 101, as the official tool for communication between administrators, parents, teachers, coaches, advisors, and students.  

With REMIND, educators can send messages instantly from their phone or computers while students and families have the option of receiving messages by text, smartphone app, or email.  Please read on for more details about how to use REMIND and how to delete old accounts.

As a student with autism, Boardman senior Anthony Steiner didn't start out enjoying the spotlight.  Today, he finds joy in performing, both on stage, and as a weatherman on BSTN-TV.

Congressman Ryan Congratulates Boardman App Winners Congressman Ryan with app winners and Principal Fernback, Evelyn Stanton, Superintendent Saxton, Anne Bott and Kyle Sheehan

Congressman Tim Ryan presented certificates to three young women from Boardman High on January 7.  Juniors Emma Davis and Ranean Sulebi and senior Alara Erzurum won the Congressional App Challenge for the 13th District.  They will be invited to Washington, DC in the spring to showcase their app, alongside hundreds of students who won from congressional districts across the country.
