On Saturday, January 26, 33 Boardman High School art students were honored at the Scholastic Art Ceremony held at Bliss Hall on YSU’s campus. Out of the 33 Boardman students who received honors, 5 works earned the prestigious Gold Key.  The Gold Key winners will be judged in New York City and those students will be eligible to win additional medals and scholarships.


Ten students earned 11 Silver Keys and senior AP Art student Tessa Tropea earned special honors: The American Vision Award for her painting “Love is in the Colors.”

Approximately 500 students from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Ashtabula submitted over 900 works of art.  Only 74 were awarded Gold Keys, and 148 received Silver.

Boardman’s Gold Key winners were: Tessa Tropea who won two, Alexandra Swavel, Natalie O’heren, and Lily Marshall.

Silver Keys included: Sophia McGee, Lilly Klisiewicz, Natalie Perham, Donovan Roberts, Julia Schrembeck, Natalie O’heren, Rhiley Randall, Tessa Tropea, Tina Zheng and Alexis Peters who won two.

Honorable mentions included: Marissa Allison, Lilly Klisiewicz, Alec Bosnjak, Alicia Fulkerson, Jacob Hughes, Paige Jankowski, Isaiah Moore, Michael O’Horo, Aireyana Rose, Gabriella Ryan, Anthony Smith, Kyria Tingler, Savannah White, Melia Peyton, Alexis Peters, Tessa Tropea, Tina Zheng, Madison Demetra, Aleyna Erzurum, Justin Fernberg, Mara Hierro, Mia Lewis, Jenny Taraszewski, Adriene Wentz.
