Dear BHS Families,

Welcome to the start of the 2020-21 school year!   As you can imagine it will be different than what we've done before, but I believe if we all truly work together, it will be a year of learning and growing and a time when our "Spartan Strong" will really show.  Boardman's tradition of excellence is the foundation we are building on--both for our in-person and remote learners.

I want to highlight some of the changes that you can anticipate.  

2020-2021 Bell Schedule

In order to allow time for teachers to be both in-person and remote instructors, we have adopted a new one hour delay schedule.  Below is the student schedule:

8:15   Bus students arrive,  grab-n-go breakfast, locker visit, report to HR

8:30   Drivers arrive, get grab-n-go breakfast, visit lockers, report to HR

8: 35   Morning announcements

8:40   Dismissal bell to first period

8:45-9:25 Period 1      40 minutes

9:30-10:10 Period 2    40 minutes

10:15-10:55 Period 3   40 minutes

11:00-11:30 4A             30 minutes

11:35-12:05 4B            30 minutes

12:10-12:40 4C            30 minutes

12:45-1:25 Period 5    40 minutes

1:30-2:10 Period 6 (2:10 Early dismissal)   40 minutes

2:15-2:55 Period 7 (2:55 Dismissal)   40 minutes

You will note that this schedule creates a staggered arrival time and a staggered dismissal time for our in-person students.

 

Locker/Book Bag Changes

In order to create as much space as possible at lockers, students will be assigned lockers with some social distancing.  In addition, to limit the number of times that students will need to visit  lockers, we will once again permit students to carry a book bag.  

Lunch Changes

In order to facilitate COVID Tracking (which may, unfortunately, become necessary), all students will have assigned lunch seats.  Students will have an opportunity to sign up for those seats prior to the school year starting. 

Freshmen Orientation

There will be a Freshmen Orientation on Thursday, September 10th.  In order to have adequate social distancing, Freshmen will be divided up into four groups, each with their own assigned  time.  This is a student only event , so students should attend on their own--again to help with our numbers and social distancing.  Schedules and other materials like lunch ID/lanyards will be given at this time.

Other Safety Procedures

We have incorporated many safety measures to our day here at Boardman High School.  In addition to the staggered arrival and dismissal times, new locker assignments/procedures, and assigned lunch seats, we will also institute the following:

  1. Mandatory mask policy and social distancing (as possible)

  2. Desk barriers and increased hand sanitizer areas

  3. Increased cleaning schedules

  4. Controlled traffic during class change

  5. 5. Water fountains limited to bottle-fillers only

Remote Learners Highlights:

We are making an orientation for our remote students available, if your student would like to physically attend.  This orientation will have our remote students divided into two groups, freshmen/junior, and sophomore/senior.  We are dividing the group in two to assist with our numbers and social distancing.  This orientation is for students only, again, to help us keep the numbers down.

In order to facilitate connections between students and teachers, we will run through a very abbreviated schedule with students going to each of their classes to meet their BHS teachers.

This Remote Student Orientation will take place on Friday, September 11, 2020, as follows:

Freshman and Junior Remote Students   8:00 a.m.-10:45 a.m.

Sophomore and Senior Remote Students 12:00 p.m.-2:45 p.m.

Again, this is not a mandatory orientation.  Masks are required.
