2019 link crew ice breaker with students with hands up in the air

A place to feel welcome--to fit in and belong!  On Wednesday, August 21,  Boardman High School’s gymnasium will be filled with more than 300 incoming freshmen students and dozens of junior and senior Link Crew Leaders.

The Link Crew Freshman Orientation runs from 8 AM until 12:15.  This nationally recognized program is  designed to welcome and support freshmen by assigning them a junior or senior “Link Leader” as a mentor for their entire first year of high school.  Orientation is action packed with ice breaker activities, tours, and time to ask questions.

Link Leaders are hand selected from a large pool of applicants and have met the qualifications of being good role models and positive leaders at BHS.  Most are involved in multiple activities as Boardman offers 24 sports, 35 clubs and a wide array of art and music opportunities.

Studies show that if students have a positive experience their first year in high school, their chance for success increases dramatically. Link Crew is a nationally recognized program that  provides the structure for freshmen to receive support and guidance from older peers who have been through the challenges that high school poses. They understand that the transition to a new school can sometimes be overwhelming.  Research has shown this program improves school safety, promotes anti-bullying and fosters better academic performance.
