Students at Boardman Center Intermediate were busy writing letters and making ornaments for Project Evergreen this week. They delivered more than 700 letters and 200 handmade ornaments to Pioneer Trails Tree Farm in Poland November 8.
For years, Pioneer has organized Project Evergreen, and sends fresh cut trees and many of the trimmings--along with letters to our soldiers overseas. According to Pioneer’s Facebook page, the trees will be cut tomorrow.
BCIS could not wait to do something for our soldiers who won’t be able to spend the holiday at home this year. “Students enjoyed making ornaments from simple things like popsicle sticks and pinecones,” said Sandra Maloney. “They were very creative and each was unique.”
Maloney is an aide at Center and helped to organize the school’s effort. “The letters were also very heartfelt, and the kids hope to bring smiles to our soldiers who receive them.”
