It's been nearly 25 years since Ohio's State Supreme Court found that Ohio's School Funding Formula is unconstitutional. Advocates for a new "Fair Funding Plan" believe that could very well change before December 31, 2020.
Ohio Representative John Patterson will talk about the status of the School Fair Funding movement in a special appearance in Boardman Monday, November 16 in the Boardman Performing Arts Center at 6 PM.
Boardman, in conjunction with the Mahoning County ESC's Educate & Advocate Series, has invited the career educator and 4-term Representative to explain how this will benefit schools and communities across the Mahoning Valley.
The bi-partisan measure focuses on funding schools in the state in a more equitable way that will depend less on property taxes and more on the actual cost of educating each child. The House and Senate will now hold hearings on the plan, and supporters hope to get it passed before this legislative term expires in December.
The Virtual Presentation will be livestreamed at BSTN-TV YouTube channel at 6 PM, Nov. 16, and the taped version will be accessible there as well. http://bstntv.com/livestream
School Superintendents and Treasurers from across the valley have been invited to attend, along with members of the grassroots community group that has been advocating for the fair funding movement. In-person attendance is limited, and masks and social distancing will be enforced.
