The Math department at Boardman High School is now equipped with brand new iPads, thanks to a generous donation from the Boardman Western Star Masonic Lodge #21.
The Lodge recently donated $5,000 to Boardman Local Schools to be used for technology. The donation helped provide a new device for every teacher in the High School Math Department.
“These new iPads and the pens and attachments enable us to work through the problems with students who are in front of us in the classroom, as well as our remote students,” said math department chair Michael Gerthung. “Students can see the whole process, a step at a time--definitely taking the old chalkboard method and making it more user friendly as we try to reach all of our students.”
Master Darrell Booher from Lodge number 21 said the Masons were not able to have their annual public fundraiser this year. However, they wanted to donate to Boardman Schools knowing the need for technology would be greater--especially in light of the pandemic.
The Boardman Western Star Masonic Lodge will celebrate its 208th anniversary this year. There are more than 100 local members of this community organization in the Mahoning Valley.
