A one-of-a-kind concert is coming to the Boardman Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, January 17. International trumpet sensation, James Morrison will be on stage with BHS Jazz Ensembles 1 and 2 and a special jazz combo. Morrison will be joined by trumpeter Willie Murillo - Los Angeles-based musician/producer/educator.
From Australia, James Morrison is actually a multi-instrumentalist and is sure to play other horns, although he's most famous for trumpet. He has played with many legends of jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Quncy Jones, Ray Charles, B.B. King, and Wynton Marsalis.
“We have brought many amazing artists to Boardman for our annual JazzFest, including last year’s 2-time Grammy winner, Eric Marienthal.” said Boardman Band Director Tom Ruggieri. “This year may be the best yet, as James Morrison has recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra and rock legends INXS–written the opening fanfare for the Olympics, and played for the Queen, as well as US Presidents Bush and Clinton and stayed in the Obama White House."
Thanks to Schagerl Instruments, and our friends Premier Tour and Travel, Bill and Karen Veri, and Bob and Linda Sebo, you can see this concert here in Boardman for a fraction of the cost of such a performance. ($10 or less)
“It is my biggest thrill to watch my students play alongside the greats, and see their faces light up,” said Ruggieri. “Bringing a virtuoso like Morrison to Boardman as he travels the world is a dream for me personally, and I just want to share it with as many in our community as possible.”
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $3 for senior citizens.
