Drug testing of students participating in extracurricular activities has been going smoothly since this past summer. Any student wishing to play interscholastic sports or drive a vehicle to school must be drug tested before being allowed to participate. These same students also are subject to random drug testing throughout the school year. Our drug testing policy is not meant to be punitive in nature. Rather, student drug testing is a means to help our students make positive personal decisions and to get help for those having difficulty with substance abuse.
Earlier this school year, our Boardman Board of Education adopted a drug testing policy for supervisors, administrators and Board Members. The Board wants show our students and the community that Boardman's leaders should also be held to this standard. As of December 1, all Boardman's administrators, supervisors and Board members were drug tested and are subject to random testing throughout the school year. It is our hope that all the district's drug education efforts will help strenthen our commuity at large.
