Updated

Boardman High School is celebrating one of its VERY BEST! Mrs. Cheryl Dutko has been named 2024 Ohio Administrative Assistant of the Year!! She will be honored at an awards ceremony in Columbus on December 3, 2024.

"If there was a game show for administrative assistants, Cheryl Dutko would be the reigning champion like Ken Jennings on Jeopardy," wrote Ms. Anne Bott, Boardman High School Associate Principal.  Bott nominated Mrs. Dutko, and had only the highest praise for her kindness and diligent dedication as she anticipates every need of Boardman High School and its nearly 1,300 inhabitants. "Her knowledge of her job, everyone else's job for that matter, and all that goes into making a school a special place is simply incomparable." Bott added.

The Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) presents this annual award to recognize exceptional administrative assistants who demonstrate outstanding contributions to their school buildings and districts.

Mrs. Dutko received three additional letters of support for her nomination from a school parent, current student, and music department chair. The accolades for Mrs. Dutko were unanimous.

"Mrs. Dutko is truly exceptional. As the "go-to" at Boardman High School, she is the heart and soul of the building and valued as such." (Boardman parent of 4)

"She truly keeps our school afloat, and does so with a large amount of passion. Not only is she an amazing administrative assistant, but possesses every positive quality that a person can embody." (student from BHS Class of 2025)

"I have been in the Boardman Local School District as a teacher for 28 years. I work in three buildings, and I can say with the utmost confidence that Cheryl Dutko is one of the finest administrative assistants I have had the pleasure and honor to work with and get to know well enough to call her a friend." (BHS Music Dept. Chair)

It should be noted that Cheryl Dutko has always been ingrained in the heart of Boardman Local Schools. She was a past PTA president, room mother for all three of her now adult children, and she still acts as the Treasurer for the Boardman Band and Orchestra Parents organization. She is an ever present volunteer, spectator, and audience member supporting our students in every way possible.
