Boardman Maroon 7th Grade Volleyball
The Boardman Maroon 7th Grade Volleyball team continued its season with three matches during the week of September 21–24. The Spartans picked up an impressive road victory over Howland while also battling through two competitive matches against Austintown Red and Girard. Boardman now sits at 5-11 heading into the final week of the regular season.
The Spartans opened the week Monday evening against Austintown Red, falling 2-0. Bexley Jamieson led the team from the service line with two aces, while Gia Ball added an ace and a point. Lena Ross contributed two points, an assist, two kills, and a dig, while Ohanna Dillard recorded an ace and a kill. Annie Montgomery added a point and an assist, while Ava Risner and Alivia Vukovich each contributed a kill. Samantha Garland also added a point as the Spartans battled throughout the match.
Boardman bounced back Wednesday with a strong 2-0 victory over Howland. Ball dominated from the service line with an incredible 17 aces, 13 points, an assist, two kills, and two digs. Ross helped lead the offense with nine assists and a kill, while Dillard had an outstanding performance at the net with eight kills and two points. Montgomery contributed five kills, a point, and a dig, while McKinnon added an assist. Vukovich, Cuevas, Garland, and Jamieson all provided valuable energy and support throughout the team victory.
The Spartans hosted Girard on Thursday and battled through one of their most competitive matches of the season. After falling in a close opening set, 25-22, Boardman fought all the way back from a 16-24 deficit to win the second set in an incredible 33-31 battle. The third set remained point-for-point throughout before Girard ultimately edged the Spartans, 25-21.
Ball led Boardman with 10 aces, nine points, two kills, and two digs. Ross added an ace, two points, a kill, and three digs, while Montgomery contributed a point, three kills, and two digs. Dillard recorded three points, two kills, and two digs, while Garland added an ace and four points. McKinnon contributed two assists, while Vukovich had five digs, an assist, and a kill. Cuevas added a kill and five digs, and Jamieson contributed a dig. Despite the loss, it was a tremendous team effort from the Spartans in a match that featured plenty of determination and resilience.

On Saturday morning, the BGJHS Cross Country teams competed in the Youngstown State University Invitational at the Mill Creek Metroparks CC Course in Canfield. The BGJHS Boys Team continued their outstanding run of meets, taking first place for the seventh straight time this season. The Boys' Team was led by Ury Doyle, who placed first overall, and Ibrahem Mohammed, who placed third. The remaining top seven runners for the Boys' Team include Jacob Lape (5th), Nathan Bero (6th), Tony Mitchell (7th), Ben Bruno (11th), and Grayson Piper (12th). The Girls' Team finished in third place at the meet. The Girls' Team was led by Willow Yanulaitis, who placed eighth overall. The rest of the top runners for the Girls’ Team were Allana Attenberger (25th), Alivia Brett (28th), Shelby Slanian (36th), Sydney Arn (37th), Avha Marshall (39th), and Amelia Ogle (41st).
The Spartans will be competing in the Mahoning County Cross Country Championship at Austintown Township Park on Wednesday.

The Boardman Freshman Volleyball returned to action Saturday morning as they traveled to Crestview to take on a tough Rebel team. The girls battled hard, but ultimately fell in two sets, 17-25 and 24-26.
Evvi McKee paced the offense with 6 assists, 2 aces, and 3 digs. Kailey Hughes led the backline with 6 digs and 1 kill. Leylani Matos and Maggie Benson each. Matos added 2 aces and 3 digs, while Benson added 1 ace and 4 digs. Leah Brown added 2 digs, Addie Ison added 1 block, and Evi Moore and Angellys Castellano added valuable contributions as well.
The Spartans fall to 4-7 and will look to end their losing streak on Wednesday as the host Howland and Crestwood in a tri-match.

Thursday night the Cardinals flew into Spartan Stadium and took off early. The Spartans continued to struggle defensively and the Cards netted early doors to take a 1-0 lead. They would double their advantage, making it 2-0 before the Spartans could mount a response. Freshman Drixon Wibowo’s hustle bombing up and down the wing earned the Spartans a free kick about 30 yards from goal. Oswaldo Salinas would step up and put away the free kick. The Cardinal keeper was able to get a hand on the kick but it slipped past for the Spartans’ only goal of the contest. The game would end 5-1 to Canfield. Goalkeeper CJ Corey would record 5 saves on the night. The Spartans’ record falls to 2-7-2. The team travels to Howland on Tuesday September 29th to play the Tigers for Varsity and Junior Varsity contests.

The Spartans' offense was running on all cylinders thanks to setters Gianna Commons and Emma Terlesky. Gianna finished with 18 assists, 5 digs, and 4 aces, while Emma added 15 assists to keep the offense rolling.
The defense was just as impressive. Riley Seydlorsky anchored the back row with 14 digs, while Xy'Asia Gilford recorded 3 digs and Natalie Ludban added 2 digs.
A huge win. A huge statement. And now, the Spartans sit alone at the top of the AAC!

Spartans Rout Raiders
On the rainy Tuesday night the Harding Raiders came to Boardman to take on the Spartans. The contest would start and in the blink of an eye the Raiders would win possession after kickoff and counter attack -- stunning the stadium and taking a 1-0 lead in less than a minute. However, the Spartans quickly recovered and equalized with a Brady Snyder goal in the next minute. Once the Spartans equalized they stepped on the gas and went ahead with an Oswaldo Salinas finish from a Diego Salinas cross. The floodgates would open and the contest would see 13 goals in total. The final score on the night was 10-3, advantage Spartans. Goal scorers included; Diego Salinas x3, Brady Snyder x2, Oswaldo Salinas, Evangelos Coutris, Mamadi Toure, Clayton Hoffman, & Zayver Magada. Sophomore goalkeeper CJ Corey recorded 6 saves on the night. The Spartans’ record now stands at 2-6-2.
The Spartans take on the Canfield Cardinals at home Thursday night for their annual Kick Out Cancer game. This year's donations will help support Levi, a boardman student currently battling Leukemia. JV @ 5:30pm and Varsity @ 7:15.
The girls soccer team defeated Warren Harding in a driving rainstorm by a score of 4-1. The Spartans got three goals from freshman Rima Rosenburg and another tally from senior Ava Acevedo. The lone goal for the Raiders came on a Penalty Kick in the first half. With the victory, Boardman moves to 3-5 and 1 -2 in the AAC. The Spartans will be back in action Wednesday at Canfield and then host Howland on Monday, September 28th for Senior Night.
Today's tennis match scheduled at Poland has been canceled.

Boardman--Boardman’s Dylan White raced to a 2nd place finish out of 509 Division II competitors to lead Boardman High School to a 8th place finish out of 31 Division II schools from Ohio and Pennsylvania at the 41st Boardman Spartan Invitational this past Saturday on the campus of Boardman High School. White tied his career-best time of 16:09, finishing just a step behind North Canton Hoover’s Sam Baker.

Lady Spartans Finish Sixth at Home
The Lady Spartan Cross Country team hosted the Boardman Spartan Invitational on Saturday, September 19, finishing sixth out of 28 Division II teams. The course was soft and a little muddy after several days of rain, with relatively cool temperatures for racing.
Senior Olivia Brady led the Spartans with a sixth-place finish in 19:06.98. Sophomore Kealia Bravo finished 22nd in 20:29.76, followed by junior Haley Bero in 33rd at 20:48.17. Junior Mia Duble placed 53rd in 21:25.25, while senior Jordyn LaCivita rounded out the scoring five in 73rd with a time of 21:44.45.
The Spartans also had three additional runners compete in the varsity race. Sophomore Matilda Mausteller finished in 22:01.14, followed by freshmen Zara Harlan in 22:25.77 and Abby Marks in 22:50.45.
The Lady Spartans junior varsity team also had a great showing, finishing second out of 15 teams in the D2 Open race. The race combined boys and girls and included nearly 500 runners. Sophomore Jemma Pavone led the Spartans with a ninth-place finish in 22:53.57, followed closely by freshman Rylie Pavone in 10th at 22:54.03. Freshman Yahayra Tenecela placed 12th in 23:22.37, while senior Gianna Berardino finished in 23:25.97 and freshman Elliot Simpson ran 24:21.89 to round out the scoring five. Rylie, Yahayra, and Elliot each recorded lifetime PRs.
The Lady Spartans will have a week off before returning to action at the Mahoning County Championship on Wednesday, September 30, at Austintown Township Park. The entire team will compete together starting at 4:45 PM. Swing by to cheer them on as they seek to defend their County Champ streak!

The Spartans also had three additional runners compete in the varsity race. Sophomore Matilda Mausteller finished in 22:01.14, followed by freshmen Zara Harlan in 22:25.77 and Abby Marks in 22:50.45.
The Lady Spartans junior varsity team also had a great showing, finishing second out of 15 teams in the D2 Open race. The race combined boys and girls and included nearly 500 runners. Sophomore Jemma Pavone led the Spartans with a ninth-place finish in 22:53.57, followed closely by freshman Rylie Pavone in 10th at 22:54.03. Freshman Yahayra Tenecela placed 12th in 23:22.37, while senior Gianna Berardino finished in 23:25.97 and freshman Elliot Simpson ran 24:21.89 to round out the scoring five. Rylie, Yahayra, and Elliot each recorded lifetime PRs.
The Lady Spartans will have a week off before returning to action at the Mahoning County Championship on Wednesday, September 30, at Austintown Township Park. The entire team will compete together starting at 4:45 PM. Swing by to cheer them on as they seek to defend their County Champ streak!

The Boardman White 8th Grade Volleyball team faced a challenging schedule this week, playing three matches in four days. The Spartans battled through each match but came up short against Canfield, West Branch, and Girard. Boardman now sits at 2-11 on the season and will look to bounce back with two home matches this week.
On Monday, the Spartans traveled to Canfield and fell to the Cardinals 2-0. Audrey Bennett led the way with an ace and three digs. Anna Tallman added a kill and a dig, while Elyse Wallace contributed an ace and three digs. Denayja Carter and Andie Gerald each recorded a dig as the Spartans battled through a tough road match.
Boardman returned home Tuesday to take on the West Branch Warriors but fell 2-0. Bennett contributed two kills, while Carter recorded an ace and a kill. Gerald added a dig, and Tallman finished with two digs. Wallace had two aces, a kill, and two digs as the Spartans continued to compete throughout the match.

Josey Fiddler led the team from the service line with eight aces, three points, and a dig. Alexa Duble came to the service line with match point on the line at 25-24 and finished the match with an ace. Duble finished with three aces, a point, three assists, six kills, and two digs. Mia Corey added an ace, six points, four kills, an assist, three blocks, and a dig. Reese Majors contributed two aces, six points, an assist, and two digs, while Julianah DiDomenico had an ace, four points, a kill, an assist, and a dig. Giuliana Ball led the offense with five assists, seven points, and a dig. Mya Majors and Mila Dovas each added two kills, with Majors also recording an assist and Dovas contributing a block.

DiDomenico finished with 13 digs, Corey had nine, while Ball, Fiddler, and Nalyna Italiano each recorded seven digs. The strong defensive effort created opportunities offensively, with DiDomenico recording four kills, while Corey, Mya Majors, and Mila Dovas each had two. Duble, Reese Majors, Fiddler, and Italiano each added a kill. Ball helped steer the offense with nine assists.
