The JV Baseball Team hosted Austintown Fitch and had a lead going into the sixth inning, but a big inning by the Falcons turned the tides and the Spartans fell 13-7.
Clayton Hoffman pitched the first 4.1 innings, keeping the Spartans in the game, giving up five earned runs and striking out six. Dylan Bruce pitched the final 1.2 innings in the loss.
Offensively, the Spartan bats were hot, belting 11 hits. Logan Miller and Patrick Young led the way with 3 hits each, Miller added 2 RBIs. Zac Caldwell added a double and 3 RBIs. Jimmy Putko added a double and a run scored. Jason Clark added a hit and an RBI. Marco Trafficante and Sal Ianazone each added a hit, with Trafficante scoring 2 runs.

The Boardman Glenwood Junior High School girls track and field team continued its reign over Mahoning County, capturing its fifth consecutive county championship in impressive fashion. Competing against 14 teams, Glenwood racked up 138 points to secure the title.
Leading the way was standout sprinter Alexa Duble, who delivered a stellar performance by winning the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and 200-meter hurdles. Her dominance on the track set the tone for Glenwood’s success, while teammate Addyson Rodriguez added a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters.
Distance standout Abby Marks also played a key role, claiming first place in both the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run. Rylie Stellato contributed valuable points with a third-place finish in the 800 meters, while Zara Harlan placed seventh in the mile.
In the hurdles, Kennedy Massey and Maggie Benson added to the scoring effort with second- and third-place finishes, respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles. Riley Pavone chipped in with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter hurdles.
Glenwood’s relay teams were equally competitive across the board. The 4x800 relay team of Stellato, Oliyah Cuevas, Harlan, and Pavone earned a strong second-place finish. The 4x400 relay team—Maggie Benson, Riley Seydlorsky, Cuevas, and Marks—took third, while the 4x100 and 4x200 squads also contributed with fourth- and fifth-place finishes.
In the field events, Vanessa Torris dominated the throwing competitions, capturing first place in both shot put and discus. Gabi Ball added another first-place finish in the long jump, while Maggie Benson placed fourth in the event.
The girls will be back in action Wednesday night at home against Howland
The Boardman Glenwood Middle School boys track and field team turned in a strong overall performance at the Mahoning County Championship, finishing third out of 14 teams with 63 points.
Glenwood was led by its distance runners, as Austin Gillin captured the county title in the 1600-meter run and added a runner-up finish in the 800 meters to pace the scoring effort. Ben Papa also contributed in the distance events, placing eighth in the mile and running a leg on the team’s third-place 4x800 relay alongside Ury Doyle, Jonah Gluck, and Jake McGee.
On the track, Owen Papini earned a third-place finish in the 400 meters, while teammate Evan Letendre added a fifth-place showing in the same event and later placed fourth in the high jump.
The hurdles crew also added valuable points, with Roman Timblin finishing second in the 200-meter hurdles and Drixon Wibowo placing fourth in both the 110-meter and 200-meter hurdle events.
In the field events, Anthony Bruno contributed with a sixth-place finish in the discus.
The boys will compete again Wednesday night at home against Howland.

Boys Varsity Drops Close Contest to Solon
The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team got locked into a defensive struggle but fell to the Solon Comets 4-2. Boardman would find themselves up 1-0 after the first quarter on a goal from Luke DeJoseph. Solon would tie it up going into the half at one apiece. DeJoseph would again find the net off an assist from teammate Chase Zelesnak before the Comets would answer to tie it up again 2-2. With just 16 seconds left in the third, active sticks on defense would knock down a Solon pass which took an odd bounce and ended up in the goal to give them a 3-2 lead. Solon would score once more in the 4th while shutting out the Spartan offense to seal the victory. Lane Schubert had an excellent game with 8 saves while Mikey Montgomery would lead the team in groundballs with 5.
The team will host Mooney on Thursday for their Senior Night.

Tonight at the Board of Education meeting, we officially recognized our BHS Cheer team for their incredible State Runner-Up performance in the Non-Tumble/Non-Stunting division!

The Spartan 4x1600 Relay Team of senior Dominic Theodore, juniors Dylan White and Jonathan Burgos-Perez, and sophomore Jacob Turek placed first in a time of 18:35.44. The Shuttle Hurdle Relay Team of senior Jerry Smith and juniors Stephan Stanford, Ryan Mitchell, and Jackson Graham placed second overall in a time of 1:00.39. Boardman placed second in the 4x200 with the relay team of Stanford, Mitchell, senior Kevin Tomlin, and junior Robrick Taylor in a time of 1:30.71. The 4x800 Relay Team of seniors Adam Nigro and Chase Moore along with junior Tommy Sullivan and sophomore Donovan Simione placed second with a time of 8:23.11. The Spartan Sprint Medley of Tomlin, Taylor, senior Blake Daniels, and junior Frank Butto placed first with a time of 1:36.38.

The Spartan 4x100 Relay Team of Tomlin, Smith, Butto, and Danield placed seventh in a time of 45.69. The Boardman Co-Ed 4x800 of Sullivan, Nigro, Jordyn LaCivita, and Moriah Doyle set a new school record in the event with a time of 9:35.59, besting the previous mark set last year by five seconds. The Spartans concluded the track events by placing first in the 4x400 Relay with the team of Boots, Moore, Stanford, and Taylor in a time of 3:30.82.

The Spartans were able to control the Draw with Ava Gaps snagging 10 draw wins, but the offense kept turning over the ball. The defense did get stronger in the 2nd and 3rd quarter only allowing 1 point each quarter, but couldn't slow the Leopards down in the 4th allowing 3 goals.
Lead scorers for the Spartans were Ava Gaps with 3 goals, Lydia Kenney with 1 and Val Hoysack with 1. The top Boardman defenders were Catherine Lorenzi with 9 goal saves, Jaycey Bogerd with 2 ground balls, Suri Stevens with 1, Harlow Kolesar with 1, Anna Bowes with 2 and Val Hoysack with 3.

The Boardman High School tennis team delivered an impressive performance on the court yesterday, defeating Warren G. Harding High School tennis team by a decisive 5-0 margin.

Lady Spartans stun state-ranked Riverside, 9–2
The Boardman Lady Spartans put together a complete performance in a statement win over state-ranked Painesville Riverside, the defending Division II state champions, by a final score of 9–2.
Boardman wasted no time applying pressure in the first inning, as the first four Spartans reached base safely. Ellie Wymer drew a walk, Mikayla Rivera ripped a double to put runners in scoring position, and Addie Rudge followed with another walk to load the bases. Addie Kowacich delivered the big blow with a bases-clearing double (she was later thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple), giving Boardman an early 3–0 lead.
That would be more than enough support for pitcher Gabi Sferra, who kept a dangerous Riverside lineup in check all night. The Beavers entered the game averaging nearly 10 runs per contest, with 90 extra-base hits and a .410 team batting average, along with several future Division I commits. Sferra, however, controlled the game from the circle and never let Riverside find a rhythm.
Boardman added to its lead in the second inning. Jocelynn Torres led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch. Sferra worked a walk, and Lanie Joyce brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. Wymer followed with a line-drive single, and Rudge reached again via walk to set the stage for Kowacich, who delivered once more with her second bases-clearing double of the game. Kate Thames capped the inning with a bloop single down the right-field line to score Kowacich and extend the lead to 8–0.
Riverside got on the board in the fifth inning, stringing together a walk and two hits to plate a run. Boardman answered right back in the bottom half. Thames singled again, Torres followed with another base hit, and Sferra helped her own cause with an RBI groundout to push the lead to 9–1.
In the seventh, Riverside threatened after the first two batters reached base, but the Spartans held firm. A sacrifice fly brought in one run, but Sferra induced a pair of groundouts to seal the victory.
Boardman’s offense was balanced and productive, with several players contributing multiple hits. Wymer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Kowacich finished 2-for-3 with five RBIs, Thames was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Torres added two hits and a run scored. Rivera chipped in a double and a run, while Rudge reached base twice and scored two runs. Joyce also added an RBI.
In the circle, Sferra earned the win, allowing just two runs on nine hits while striking out nine against one of the top offenses in the state.
Boardman will look to carry this momentum into another big matchup as they face Division III opponent Archbishop Hoban on Friday.
The JV Baseball Team traveled to Lakeview for their fourth game in as many days and unfortunately fell 9-2.
On the mound, Dylan Bruce got the start and pitched 3 innings, giving up two earned runs with two strikeouts. Anthony Ramunno added 1 inning in relief with one earned run and a strikeout. Jimmy Putko pitched 1 scoreless inning with a strikeout.
On the offensive side of the ball Logan Miller and Ben Breese led the way with 2 hits each. Miller added an RBI and Breese added a run. Marco Trafficante, Sal Ianazone, and Coben Scarsella each added a double. Zac Caldwell also added a hit to the column.

The Boardman Varsity Baseball Team traveled to Cene Park to take on the Struthers Wildcats and left with a 10-0 victory in dominant fashion.
Tyler Kirlik was once again dominant on the hill, pitching his second complete game shutout of the season. Kirlik finished with 6 innings, one hit, and nine strikeouts.
Offensively, the Spartans managed to spread 13 hits, led by their middle of the order as the 2-3-4-5 hitters combined for 9 hits and 6 RBIs. Kirlik helped his own cause with 2 hits, including a double, and 3 runs scored. Ryan Neifer added 2 hits, 2 run, and 3 RBIs. Donovan Whippo went 3-4 with a run and RBI. Thomas Ramovs added 2 hits, a run, and 2 RBIs. Danny Jorge had a big two out hit and added 3 RBIs. Ricky Gozur added 2 hits, a steal and a run scored. Vince Butto added a hit and a run and Jonathan Grope added an RBI and run.

Austintown-The Boardman Boys Track Team improved their 2026 record to 4-0 after posting a 96-41 victory over the Austintown Fitch Falcons at Greenwood Stadium in Austintown this past Tuesday.
Junior Ethan Timblin placed first in the 110H with classmates Stephan Stanford and Ryan Mitchell placing second and third overall. Junior Robrick Taylor placed second in the 100 meter dash. The 4x200 relay team of senior Kevin Tomlin, Stanford, Taylor, and Mitchell placed first. Sophomore Jacob Turek placed first in the 1600 with senior Adam Nigro in second and senior Chase Moore in third. The Spartan 4x100 relay team of Tomlin, junior Frank Butto, senior Jerry Smith, and senior Blake Daniels placed first. Senior Connor Boots placed second in the 400 meter dash with junior Zach Diroff in third. Timblin placed first in the 300H with Stanford in second and Smith in third. Senior Dominic Theodore placed first in the 800 meter run with sophomore Donovan Simione in second and junior Jayden Mayhew in third. The 200 meter dash saw Tomlin place first and Taylor second. The next event was the 3200 meter run which was won by sophomore Noah Belgin with freshman Cooper Moore in second and junior Dylan White in third. The 4x400 relay team of junior Timblin, Boots, Stanford, and Taylor placed first.
In the field events, senior James Mitchell placed first in the shot put and junior Brandon Shaw was third. Junior Khaled Mohammed placed first in the discus with junior Dario Radujkovic taking third. Smith placed second in the long jump. Daniels placed first in the high jump. Theodore placed second in the pole vault with freshman Ezekiel Doyle in third.
