BHS students standing in front of YSU's Beeghly Center for English Fesitval

Boardman High School and Boardman Glenwood Junior High Spartans had a standout showing at the 48th Annual YSU English Festival on April 22 & 23--including taking home several first place accolades including the prestigious Candace Gay Essay winner.

Authors Randy Rigby, Chris Crowe, and Maggie Stiefvater were featured at this year’s event. Students are required to read seven books during the school year before attending the English Festival. Students are engaged in literary activities and competitions throughout the day, listening to the authors and attending sessions that deepen their appreciation for reading and writing.

Boardman senior Catherine Lorenzi earned the festival’s highest honor, taking first place in the Candace Gay Memorial Essay Contest. Her essay was chosen among more than 500 submitted in February and awarded at the festival.
