A team of three Boardman High School students earned second place at the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge held Oct. 23 at Youngstown State University, competing against nearly three dozen teams in a fast-paced investing simulation.
The Boardman team, dubbed the “Profit Pioneers,” included junior Evan Moorman and sophomores Tyler Holcomb and Evangelos Coutris. Their second-place finish earned the team a trophy, with each student receiving a $150 prize.
The students were among two dozen Boardman High School students who participated in the hands-on experience, putting the knowledge they gained in Mrs. Matiste’s and Mrs. Pendleton’s Personal Finance classes to the test.
During the simulation, each minute represented a full trading day as teams raced through 60 “days” of market activity. Students responded to fictional news events, tracked company trends and made quick decisions about buying and selling stocks.
The challenge gave students an opportunity to apply classroom concepts in a competitive, real-world-style setting while developing valuable skills in investing, decision-making and market strategy.
Congratulations to the Profit Pioneers on their impressive finish!
